John Currie- Director of Beeston Film Festival

How he got into filmmaking and directing events like the Beeston Film Festival

His own interest in films, what are his favourites

His opinion on what the greatest film of all time is?

Hello John,

I am reaching out on the recommendation of my tutor Matt Turpin about a possible interview with you. I am Rachel a journalism student from Nottingham College and an aspiring filmmaker.

I am looking to become more knowledgeable about film and the industry that surrounds it, creating a great foundation for myself when I progress to study filmmaking at University. I am challenging myself to watch classic films, learn about film history and start analysing films for social media content. I will showcase my journey and findings in a documentary.

Alongside this I will be investigating how people get into the film industry, as someone who wants to do so myself. It would be great if we could discuss how you got your start in filmmaking aswell as directing events like the Beeston Film Festival. It would be great if we could arrange an interview at some point.

Kindest regards,

Rachel Emily Eaton

I reached out via Instagram DM:

Hi, I'm Rachel, a student journalist from the UK.

I am making a documentary called 'how to become a film nerd', where I will try to become a film expert, and share my experience as I gain knowledge by watching and analysing films.

Your Tiktok series 'becoming a filmbro' really inspired me to do this as I want to go into filmmaking but haven't watched a lot of classic, must-watch films.

I am reaching out to see if you would be able to do an interview or maybe give me some tips on how to become a so-called film 'nerd'.

I didn't recieve a response for a while. I should have contacted Amalia again to see if she was still up for a talk, however I focused on starting the project instead. I have asked her about a month later. She didn't read my messages that gave her direction for what I would ask from her. I wanted to have her guide me before the start of the process, however it didn't work out, so I can hopefully now get an interview with her to check up on my progress, and give me further advice. This is why today (28th) was the right time to reach out again, as I have already started the process, so maybe she would feel less pressure for the interview, and it would just be a chat, about becoming a film nerd/film bro.

Mark Kermode and Simon Mayo:

I received a response from this e-mail giving me other addresses to contact Mark Kermode. So I will reach out that way for a possible interview. This is because that e-mail is only for the podcast, so I will reach out to Kermode's agent to see if it is possible.

On Tiktok I reached out to:

ree

I received a response saying they were interested in participating and asking for more information about the project. I gave more information, a better summary and awaited a response.

They said they are happy to talk, and I set a date and time for Tuesday 13th May at 11am.
