The FMP brief was delivered on 17th March, the deadline for the project being 14th June.
From the brief I have understood that I have to create a project incorporating a written piece aswell as a technical piece. I need to document my process throughout on a reflective log and set up blogs corresponding to different elements of the project including primary and secondary research, pre-production and the final outcome. The outcome will be assessed on informing ideas (FMP 1), problem solving (FMP 2), technical skills (FMP 3), professional practice (FMP 4), and communication (FMP 5), so I need to consider these during the process to get the best grade possible. The project is also about developing my practical and professional skills to help me when I enter the industry. The second FMP is worth half of my grade, so it requires me to bring all the skills and experience that I have gained so far together. I am also aware that my final outcome will be incorporated into NEON and professionally published in the latest issue.
For my FMP I want to create a short film alongside my written piece, as the technical element of the project. I am doing this because I have experience in making films, from my last FMP, and I want to further improve this for my future study as I am transitioning into filmmaking. Also, I am very passionate about making films, so it will be easier to motivate myself for the duration of this project if I create a film. For the subject of this film, I want to focus on something related to film or my future career aspirations, because it ties in well with my work from B1 and will help me prepare for university, aswell as being something I am interested in. This is different from my first FMP as I did that on the topic of motorsport, so my approach will be different, and it will push me out of my comfort zone.
To generate ideas I need to do some research more into my topic, to see what issues may need to be addressed and what the audience may be interested in. I need to conduct secondary research into the film industry, and potentially conduct some primary research on social media, by posting asking the audience what they may be interested in. I have already started developing an community on social media by following creators in the film industry and interacting with content. I can use this to my advantage during the project for research.
For my second FMP I want to expand my use of techniques and maybe experiment with using a camera and shooting on different locations. I want to try using different software, and improving my skills on Adobe Audition as I don't have confidence in the software, but it will be useful for me. I could also consider conducting investigative journalism in this project and maybe making a different style of documentary from the 6 modes of address, maybe I could immerse myself in an experience to learn first-hand and document it as my project (participatory or performative).
