Podcast editing + technical reflection

Updated: Feb 23

These screenshots display the process of editing and some of the steps that I took to edit it, cutting out moments of silence and tangents, also improving the sound quality. This is the process I went through:

Import all files (the 4 mic files, wave format) onto a new Adobe Audition track.

You can single out each mic and listen to it separately by clicking 's' on the side panel, and monitor it to make some adjustments if needed.

You can group files together by dragging the mouse over all of the mics and then right-click, go down to the group, and you can then act on all tracks together. You can then make cuts to all the clips together, using the razor tool.

You can also name the mics separately, here I used the initials of the people speaking as a placeholder name so I knew clearly which person used which mic so I can adjust based on that, one person may need to have their voice pitched up someone else may need their voice pitched down. Its all about adjusting so that the whole track flows well and sounds good.

Matching the clip loudness means that it is clearer and flows better. We adjusted it to -6 decibels, so all clips had that volume.

Then you do track EQ. You use vocal enhancer to adjust the frequency.

Then you do compression, and use the broadcast preset.

Once you've done this you can export. To do this you go to 'file', down to 'export', across to 'multitrack mixdown' and choose entire session. You can then export in your chosen format, I exported in an MP3 format, and also chose the location that I wanted to export it to in my onedrive.

Then just click export and you've got the finished file.
