Working Title/Headline: | How to become a film nerd (in 30 days) |

Context: Contextualise your topic. Why have you chosen this issue? Why does this story need to be told? Why are you a good person to tell it? | I am a film novice. I have watched many films, but not many of the classics, and when asked if I have watched films the answer is most likely no. I don't get many film references because I haven't watched the films, so my goal is to catch-up. I am going to study filmmaking at university so I need to increase my knowledge of film to prepare myself. |

Pitch Script:
Slide 1: How to become a film nerd.
Slide 2: Hi everyone, I am Rachel and I have a dilemma. I am an aspiring filmmaker, but I don’t know alot about film. So I am setting out to become more knowledgeable in my documentary ‘How to become a film nerd’.
Slide 3: I love films however if someone were to ask me if I have watched this or that film the most likely answer they will receive is no. No, I haven't watched Pretty Woman or The Godfather or Pulp Fiction. I need to sort this out. To do this I will watch films, understand them, discuss, collect physical media and share my passion on social media, so that I can create films in the future.
Slide 4: I want to watch some of the greatest films rated by critics and fans, cult classics, and comfort movies, to gain a wider understanding of the craft. I will learn how to analyse and appreciate films. Some that I want to watch are Citizen Kane, the Godfather, Shawshank Redemption, Pulp Fiction, Casablanca, Psycho, City Lights and Vertigo. I will get recommendations from interviewees, lists of the best movies and from research.
Slide 5: I am inspired by Amalia Maria’s ‘Becoming a Filmbro’ Tiktok series, where she watches films chosen by a filter, and reflects after, giving them a rating. The Youtube series (10 years ago) ‘So you wanna be a film nerd’ can serve as a guide for my challenge, and helps me understand what it is to be a film nerd. ‘I tried to become a genius in 30 days’ is the inspiration for the format of my documentary, speaking with experts to get advice and documenting my progress throughout the experiment.
Slide 6: My participants are John Currie, from Beeston Film Festival, who I have already interviewed, footage is on the next slide, and I am in contact with the creator of the tiktok series that inspired me, Amalia Maria. I will also reach out to other filmmakers and experts for interviews.
Slide 7: (Show footage, duration is 1 min 32 sec)
Slide 8: My plan is to start a process of 30 days on about 21st april, until 21st may. During this time I will watch films, study film and create content for social media. I will also be editing the footage together whilst I am still in production, which will mean that I am not rushing post-production. Before that I will be contacting more possible interviewees, planning and preparing the challenge.
Slide 9: Thank you for listening, any questions?
